The rise of cross-border e-commerce in Africa is transforming how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) trade and grow. From Accra to Kumasi and beyond, local businesses are tapping into global markets, selling products and services across borders with just a few clicks. However, while the opportunities are immense, SMEs in Ghana still face major challenges when it comes to managing their finances digitally. This is why Social Enterprise Ghana, in partnership with GIZ Ghana’s Program for Export and Competitiveness in the Creative Industries (PECI), is offering a FREE Digital Financial Literacy (DFL) Training to equip entrepreneurs with the tools they need to thrive.

Why SMEs Need Digital Financial Literacy

For Ghanaian businesses venturing into international trade, financial literacy is no longer optional—it’s a survival skill. Entrepreneurs must understand:

  • How to secure international payments
  • How to protect themselves from fraud in digital transactions
  • How to navigate mobile banking and fintech platforms
  • How to comply with cross-border financial laws and regulations

Without these skills, many SMEs risk losing money, customers, and global opportunities.

Challenges Facing SMEs in Digital Payments

Although mobile money and fintech tools have made digital transactions more accessible, SMEs still face:

  • Fraud risks with unverified online payments
  • Lack of knowledge in using bookkeeping and digital wallets effectively
  • Compliance issues with international tax and financial regulations
  • Unstable exchange rates affecting cross-border deals

These challenges highlight why structured training is critical for business sustainability and growth.
