Barcamp Tema 2026 Champions Youth Talent, Innovation, and Mentorship in Ghana’s Industrial City

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, the 12th edition of Barcamp Tema brought together young changemakers, entrepreneurs, innovators at the Rotary Centre (Rotary Club House C5) in Tema, Ghana. Organized by the GhanaThink Foundation as part of its nationwide Barcamp Ghana program, the free, day-long event carried the theme “Environment | Finance | Impact” to help young people identify, clarify, and convert opportunities into sustainable business ventures.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

The event was brought to life by dedicated local team members, volunteers and other GhanaThink members. Reflecting on the leadership effort required to execute the gathering, Timothy K. D. Amuah, Coordinator & Team Lead for Barcamp Tema 2026, shared: “Being the Team Lead for BarCamp Tema 2026 under the GhanaThink Foundation was a defining milestone that challenged me to focus on a broad strategic vision. The journey required countless hours of meticulous event planning, partnership outreach, and goal alignment to ensure every moving part worked in perfect harmony.

In this interview with Baobab Entrepreneur, he added: When the doors finally opened on August 8th at the Rotary Centre, the culmination of these efforts was incredibly rewarding, but the true magic lay with our passionate volunteers whose dedication formed the backbone of the event’s seamless execution. Witnessing the electric energy, the vibrant exchange of ideas, and the meaningful new connections being forged made all the late nights entirely worthwhile. Ultimately, this experience not only tested my organizational and leadership skills, but it deeply reinforced my commitment to building collaborative spaces where the youth and our broader community can connect, learn, and grow.”

Institutional Partnerships and Collaborations

The execution of Barcamp Tema 2026 was made possible through strong institutional collaborations that kept the event free and accessible. Supporting partners included Development Bank Ghana (DBG, celebrating its #DBGat5 milestone), the Rotaract Club of Tema, Tema Lions Club, Baobab Entrepreneur, EventIsLive, Unilever, Promasidor, and others, alongside dedicated volunteers from groups such as Tema Rotaract.

Commending the platform’s ongoing role in youth development, Oswald Felli, Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs for DBG, remarked: “Barcamp Ghana is a remarkable platform that empowers young people to learn, connect, and unlock opportunities. The event was well organized, highly engaging, and filled with participants eager to share ideas and gain new perspectives. Its ability to bring together aspiring entrepreneurs, professionals, and mentors creates meaningful pathways for innovation, employment, and business growth. We commend the GhanaThink team for sustaining such an impactful initiative and encourage them to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in future editions.”

Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing

Mentorship remains a central pillar of the Barcamp experience, offering one-on-one sessions for real feedback, actionable guidance, and clarity. A diverse cohort of seasoned professionals served as mentors for the day, including Joshua Andrews-Egyir, Kwame Dzardeh, Edith Ameyo Kowu, Ebenezer Asumang, Atsu George Geraldo de Lima, David Tetteh Alema-Mensah, Dion Powell, Naa Amerley-Croffie, Delali Buahini, Abena Konadu Baidoo, Ing. Kwame Adu-Appeah, Winston Nii Kwartei Quartey, Fiona Wilberforce-Kamau, Albert Datsomor, Christabel Darko, Albert Nii Armah Masoperh,  David Kwaku Sakyi, Regina Okyere Darko, Onome Angelle.

“My experience at Barcamp Tema 2026 was inspiring and rewarding. I enjoyed connecting with participants, mentors, and professionals while exchanging ideas and learning from different perspectives.

Along with speed mentoring and speed networking, the event featured interactive breakout sessions where participants tackled pressing community and career topics. Highlighting the practical dialogue during these breakout discussions, Benjamin Adadevoh, Barcamp Ghana Partnerships Lead, stated: One of the highlights was the breakout session, where the discussion focused on the disconnect between Ghana’s formal and informal sectors and how we can create solutions that work for both. Participants raised important questions around how SMEs can be better supported and how collaboration between SMEs, telcos, and banks could help businesses access the right resources, services, and opportunities for growth. The discussion reinforced for me that community events are most valuable when they create space for people to openly share real challenges, question existing systems, and collectively explore practical solutions. The DBG partnership also demonstrated the importance of collaboration between institutions and communities in creating opportunities and supporting the growth of young people and businesses.”

The KonnectKouch Session

A major highlight of Barcamp Tema 2026 was the #KonnectKouch, an engaging, interview-style segment that provided participants with relatable, real-world blueprints for growth. Moderated by GhanaThink Foundation director Ato Ulzen-Appiah, the session featured deep-dive live conversations with two featured personalities: David Kwaku Sakyi (KD), author of Lessons by the Life of Ants, and Fiona Wilberforce Kamau of Lema Concepts Africa. During the interview, KD shared inspiring career lessons, including how Reggie Rockstone gave him the name “KD” during his early days in radio.

Reflecting on the impact of this segment, Zoe Joseph Jnr Damesi, Marketing Lead for Barcamp Tema, noted: “Barcamp Tema 2026 was great, It’s always been about creating a space for young people to get mentored, learn, connect and share ideas The highlight for me was seeing participants actively listening during the Konnect Kouch Session, as our guests shared their life lessons and encouraged us to build strong character in the AI and technology driven world we live in today”

Operational Outcomes and Feedback

Local organizing leads evaluated the administrative execution to ensure continuous improvement for future editions. Veronica Gyesi became the #bctema Resources Lead after volunteering with the team last year. She noted: “I think BarCamp Tema 2026 went really well. One of the best parts was seeing people from different backgrounds come together to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. The coordination during the programme was also good, and it was great to see participants stay and engage until the end. The interaction between the mentors and participants, especially during the speed mentoring sessions, was also very encouraging. Overall, it was a successful program and a great platform for networking, learning, and building connections.”

Regarding logistics and resource procurement, Albert Anati Amenyah, the Barcamp Tema Logistics Lead added: “From the logistics point of view, Barcamp Tema 2026 was a success. We procured most of the resources needed, venue, P.A. system, chairs, projector etc. The washrooms were okay, we had good snacks and lunch. I will give credit to the whole team, good work done and hope for better next year.”

Through dedicated volunteer leadership, direct mentorship, and cross-sector partnerships, Barcamp Tema 2026 reaffirmed Tema’s role as an industrial and entrepreneurial hub driven by young doers.
