GrassRoots Hub, Ghana Tech Lab, to hold a six-week intensive Mobile App Development Training Program for 30 participants in Sunyani.

‘The future they say is a technology and, the future is now!’

Digital literacy plays a crucial role in the pursuit of the 4th industrial revolution. Countries, kingdoms, states, and even nations across the world particularly those in the West have engendered technology into their societal fiber especially their educational system and curriculums. However, the same cannot be said about Africa, particularly Ghana- where digital illiteracy is high even among university graduates.

Against this background, GrassRoots Hub, an innovation and incubation hub based in Sunyani, in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab through the support of Master Card Foundation, World Bank, and the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization-Ghana, is set to train 30 youths through the Pathways to Sustainable Employment: Mobile App with Flutter, selected from towns and villages around Sunyani, Bono regional capital.

The six-week free training will commence on the 15th of November to 25th December 2021 at the Grassroots Hub’s office in Sunyani-Baakoniaba.

The program is engrossed in providing selected young people between the ages of 18-35 with competent and versatile skills in mobile application and experiences that are pertinent in starting their jobs.

As part of the program, trainees visited GrassRoots Hub’s office in Sunyani on Friday 12 November 2021, for a brief orientation on the training. This according to Mr. Robert Kwasi Oppong, Communication Officer- GrassRoots Hub, will help trainees adapt easily to the upcoming mobile App training.

Ms. Diana Kwaaba Cudjoe, Hub Manager of GrassRoots Hub, explained that the program is designed to expose trainees to modules such as Introduction to the Dart language, mobile mockup designing, basics of mobile app development, rest API development with Nodejs, google firebase integration, and usage and simple animation flutter.

According to her, in line with GrassRoots Hub’s core mission of providing sustainable jobs for the youths across the world, the Hub is focused on ensuring delivery of integrated entrepreneurship support such as skill-building, seed funding, incubation, and a paid internship with the view of creating a pipeline of investment, ready firms and linking young people to employment opportunities.

The goal of the training is to equip trainees to develop the relevant skills, knowledge, and attitude requisite for an entrepreneur to help curb the unemployment rate in Ghana.

The structure of the program is such that at end of the program trainees will be able to acquire the business and technical skills needed to successfully start up a business and also be a source of employment to others.

We are grateful to all our partners for supporting this impactful initiative.
