WAN-Hive Ghana, a female-focused Innovation space in Sunyani hosts its maiden Startup Summit on January 14, 2022, under the theme “Mobile Applications for Sustainable Business Development and Job Creation in Sunyani”. 
The Startup Summit is an event that commemorates the Six week intensive Mobile App development training undertaken by WAN-Hive Ghana under the Pathway to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) program in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab. The program which is supported by the Mastercard Foundation, Young Africa Works, World Bank, and Ministry of Communications seeks to create sustainable employment opportunities for young people in Ghana through technology.


The event commenced with opening remarks from the Chief Executive Officer of WAN-Hive Ghana, Ms. Janat Issifu who welcomed all participants present including investors, entrepreneurs, public service Personnel, startups, students, and others. She explained the objective of the PaSE program whilst touching on the numerous opportunities been created for young women across the country. The C.E.O assured participants that WAN-Hive Ghana is poised to change the status-quo and equip young women with all relevant skills and mentorship they need to establish their own businesses in Tech. She added that WAN-Hive has opened its doors to provide free Business Consultation services to female-led businesses every Thursday and Friday. This she believes will help develop sustainable businesses and create more employment opportunities for women in Sunyani. 


Dr. Appiahene Peter, the C.E.O of CY Technologies Ghana who doubles as the Head of the Computer Science and Informatics Department giving keynote remarks encouraged the youth in Sunyani to take advantage of mobile applications in growing and sustaining their businesses. He explicitly explained that in the 21st Century, no business can strive without taking advantage of technology specifically Mobile applications. He entreated the Youth to engage in research and several Consultations to help them understand their preferred industries before fully venturing into them to avoid unforeseen losses.


“Startups should not do everything by themselves, they should endeavor to create productive partnerships to enable them build and sustain their businesses”. Ms. Princella Quarshie, Programs Manager for the Bono Region National Youth Authority asserted during the  Panel Discussion. The Founder of Folla Insights and Shoes Paddy, Emmanuel Tettey Boakye in the spirit of empowerment stated “Creativity should be the hallmark of every developer”. He added that young entrepreneurs should avail themselves to learn and create new content that will meet the changing demands of their users.
Team “TONADI” who developed a mobile application connecting farmers to consumers of legumes emerged winners after a tough competition with Team “SIMA ME EXPRESS” who took the second position. Team Sima Me Express developed a Mobile Application that seeks to solve the problem of accessing laundry services in Sunyani. 
In closing remarks, the Founder of WAN-Hive Ghana reiterated that Startups will receive continuous tailored business development support through an Incubation program to help them build and sustain their mobile app businesses.
