WAN-Hive Ghana through its Obaasima Business Challenge initiative has awarded four of its female winners with Business equipment and free advisory services to start, grow and sustain their business Innovations.

The 2nd edition of the Obaasima Business Challenge which commenced in November 2021 received applications from Eighty-Two (82) female-led startups in Ghana of which 40% were from the Agricultural sector, 20% from the Food Processing sector, 15% from the Fashion sector, 10% from the Trade and Industry sector, 10% from the Service sector and 5% from the Technology and Innovations sector. After a rigorous selection process, Ten(10) of these startups successfully made it to the final stage of the challenge.

Throughout the phases of the challenge, Startups received tailored capacity strengthening support relevant to the sustainability of their businesses. This support included but was not limited to tailored business development training in designing business model Canvas, financial management, digital marketing, basic bookkeeping, and designing Pitch Deck.

The business challenge ended with LILY’S CRAFT becoming the Winner. Lilly’s crafts is a  clothing brand that uses a mix of colorful print and patterns to create quality and affordable products. Followed by ROSTRI FRESH as the 1st Runner-Up. Rostri Fresh deals in the production and sales of fresh yogurt drinks with a variety of flavors including vanilla, Strawberry, wheat mix, and others. CIRCULAR ORGANIC FARM, the 2nd Runner-up is an agribusiness focused on producing vegetables using organic fertilizer. And finally, AJ’s FITVIBE, a health and fitness service provider received the WAN-Hive special award.

Winners of the Challenge will receive three different sets of support from WAN-Hive Ghana including Business Equipment and machinery support, Business Formalization support, and Business Development Support. The first phase of the support was executed whereby business equipment such as Electrical Sewing Machines, Farming equipment, Fridges, Scale, Sport Cones, Floor Ladder, and others was awarded to the four winners to commence their business operations. Under the second phase of support, all businesses will be registered with the Registrar General’s Department including other Formalization support. Whilst the third phase of support will expose startups to business development strategies for growth and sustainability.

The Obaasima Business Challenge is an initiative to empower young women to go into entrepreneurship, and address young women’s unemployment challenges by equipping them with business, entrepreneurship, and digital skills that will enable them to take advantage of opportunities offered to generate wealth, create jobs, and increase the number of sustainable enterprises in Ghana.
