On Friday, September 1, 2023, the grand finale of the Obasimaa Business Challenge (OBC) was held in Sunyani, Bono Region. The event, organized by WAN-Hive Ghana, marked the culmination of a series of bootcamps, mentorship, and training programs aimed at empowering female startups and entrepreneurs.

The OBC final pitch event brought together traditional leaders, relevant stakeholders in the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, and the general public. The program commenced with a warm welcome address from the CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana Ms. Janat Issifu, setting the stage for an exciting and inspiring event.

One notable presence at the event was a delegation from the Registrar General’s department, who expressed their joy about the strong relationship they have built with WAN-Hive Ghana. They encouraged the participating startups to take their entrepreneurship journey seriously and emphasized the importance of registering their businesses to unlock the opportunities that comes with it.

The highlight of the event was when the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Awo Banahene, honoured the invitation and attended the program. Her presence was a pleasant surprise as the minister shared her life story, empowering the aspiring entrepreneurs with her experiences and encouraged them to persevere in their endeavors. She also took the time to inspect the various products showcased by the participants, showing her support for their creative ventures.

The main event of the program featured the pitch presentations of the ten participating startups to a panel of judges. After careful evaluation, three startups emerged as winners. Awunpara, a startup connecting labourers to farmers through a web design, secured the second runner-up position. D-Shelois’s Enterprise, a cosmetic manufacturing startup, was named the first runner-up. Finally, OBJ Arts and Craft, a startup specializing in portrait design and paper creations, emerged as the overall winner of the Obasimaa Business Challenge 2023.

The previous winners of the OBC also took the stage to share their experiences with the audience and participants. They highlighted how the competition had significantly improved their businesses and transformed their lives. Their stories served as a source of inspiration for the aspiring entrepreneurs in attendance.

As a reward for their outstanding performances, WAN-Hive Ghana will award winners with business equipments, funding, access to office space and networking opportunities.
