WAN-Hive Ghana, a social innovation space in the Bono Region held the Grand Finale for Obaasima Business Challenge on May 19, 2022. The Virtual event recorded a number of guests including social innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, hubs, and duty bearers.
The second edition of Obaasima Business Challenge was launched in January 2022 in Sunyani with the sole aim of supporting the economic and entrepreneurship empowerment of young women in Ghana. Part of the objectives of this challenge is to address young women’s unemployment challenges by equipping them with business, entrepreneurship, and digital skills that will enable them to take advantage of opportunities offered to generate wealth, create jobs, and increase the number of sustainable enterprises in Ghana.
Janat Issifu C.E.O of WAN-Hive Ghana giving opening remarks applauded participants for their tenacity and dedication throughout the period of the business challenge. The Obaasima Business Challenge received over eighty-seven (87) applications from young women across the country which was followed by a rigorous selection process, leading Ten (10) business innovations to the Grand FINALE. Business development workshops in financial management, business modeling, basic bookkeeping digital skills training, mentorship, and coaching are part of the benefits enjoyed by participants during the three months engagement as mentioned by the C.E.O.
Adwoa Fosua, Alfred Opoku, George Antwi Boasiako, C.EO. of Women’s Haven Africa, C.O.O of Northern Innovation Lab, and C.E.O of Agrico respectively marveled at participants with their thought-provoking business insights shared at the event.
At the end of the business pitch LILY’S CRAFT, a clothing brand using a mix of colorful print and patterns to create quality and affordable products became the Winner at the Second edition of the Obaasima Business Challenge followed by TASTY T. a fresh yoghurt drink production business and finally CIRCULAR ORGANIC FARM, an agribusiness focused on the production of organic vegetables taking the 2nd Runner up position. A special award was given to AJ’s FITVIBE as the only service providing business in the challenge with great potential.
