WAN-Hive Ghana Launches SportHER Project in Partnership with KGL Foundation to Empower Young Girls Through Sports and Entrepreneurship

WAN-Hive Ghana, a leading female-focused innovation hub based in the Bono Region, has officially launched the SportHER Project in collaboration with the KGL Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of KGL Group. This initiative is designed to empower marginalized young girls aged 15-35 in the Bono Region by combining sports training and entrepreneurship development.
Empowering Girls Through Sports and Skills Training
The SportHER Project aims to spark interest in sports like volleyball, basketball, and karate among young women, while simultaneously building their confidence, self-discipline, and a strong sense of belonging. In addition to physical training, participants will receive essential entrepreneurship skills to support economic independence and personal growth.
By promoting self-defense and team spirit, the project not only encourages healthy lifestyles but also opens doors to leadership and career opportunities in sports and business.

Diverse Stakeholder Engagement
The launch event brought together key stakeholders from across sectors including:
- National Sports Authority
- Bono Ahafo Basketball & Football Associations
- Municipal and Regional Education Directorates
- Physical Education masters from senior high schools
- Traditional leaders such as the Dumasua Nkosuohene
- Fiapre Youth Association
Also present were representatives from the National Youth Authority, Youth Employment Agency, and multiple media houses including Ark FM, Sompa FM, Bono FM, Kings TV, and Voice TV. Entrepreneurship hubs such as Inspinest and others operating in the Bono Region were also in attendance.
Stakeholder Commitments and Project Support
During the discussions, stakeholders expressed strong support for the project, pledging assistance in various forms such as:
- Provision of training venues
- Deployment of expert trainers
- Community sensitization and recruitment of participants
- Facilitation of job opportunities for beneficiaries
These collaborative efforts highlight a collective commitment to ensuring the success and sustainability of the SportHER Project.
A Vision for Inclusive Development
In her keynote address, Miss Janat Issifu, CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and announced that a deprived school in the region will receive a new basketball court as part of the project. She reiterated that the SportHER initiative goes beyond sports by integrating entrepreneurial mentorship and business development support for young girls.
The launch culminated in an official unveiling of the project, with the Regional Director of Education and the Chairman of the National Sports Authority joining Miss Issifu in the symbolic opening ceremony.
