WAN-Hive Ghana calls on stakeholders in the Bono Region to support women in digital skills and entrepreneurship

WAN-Hive Ghana, a social impact hub in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab with support from Mastercard Foundation, Young Africa Works, World Bank, and Ministry of Communication held our maiden consultative engagement under the theme “Empowering Women through Mobile Application for Economic Development”.

This engagement is to help build consensus, gather feedbacks, and recommend strategies on the best ways to create sustainable employment for women through Mobile Application Development under the Pathways to Sustainable Employment Program (PaSE). 
The maiden engagement drew various stakeholders from six targeted pillars including the Human Capital pillar, Policy and Government pillar, Media pillar, Market pillar, Support, and infrastructure pillar, and the Finance pillar.
Speaking with the press at the engagement in Sunyani, Miss Janat Issifu, the founder and the CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana mentioned that the program will focus on training and empowering women in technology, specifically Mobile App Development.
According to her, this will promote digital skills and entrepreneurship in the ecosystem here in the Bono Region. Additionally, it would create opportunities for sustainable employment among the youth, especially young ladies. She highlighted the benefits of technology in our world and how it would help position the trainees well in this job market of high digital demand. And also help them reach wider markets in their business operations. Mrs. Joycelyn Adii, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Director of the Department of Gender applauded WAN-Hive Ghana for the steps being taken to ensure more women’s inclusion in technology. 
Since the world is moving to the technological pedestal, the Regional Director further advised young ladies to acquire technological skills to be independent which will accelerate their advancement and their independence. According to her, the skills learned can be commercialized to earn income which will bridge the huge social-economic gap that exists between men and women in our various societies. 
Miss Appianing  Dorothy, the Co-Founder for Designers in Vogue and a participant called on various financial institutions to support startups to accelerate their development.
