As momentum builds across African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries to enhance support for the social economy. To impact this knowledge, the Investment Climate Reforms Facility (ICR) under the Social Enterprise Ghana will host a live Virtual event that will focus on ” Approaches to drafting legislation and policies for social economy in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries”.

This event is open to all and will feature social economy experts including; Charmaine BRIMM( Technical specialist: Socio-Economic Development, Planning Institute of Jamaica), Patrick KLEIN( Head of Sector, DG Grow, Social Economy, and Social Enterprise, European Commission), Edwin ZU – CUDJOE ( Executive Director, Social Enterprise Ghana) and Dan GREGORY ( Director of International and Sustainable Development, Social Enterprise UK) will also grace the event and enlighten participants on the theme being focus.

The event will draw on the lessons learned from two ICR facility interventions in Jamaica and Ghana as from other initiatives supported by the European Union and other actors exploring impactful strategies for developing a legal framework and drafting national policies that accelerate the development of the social economy.

In addition, the event will benefit participants in addressing social and environmental challenges, sustainable business environments, and improving the livelihoods of these individuals.

The event will include the presentation of the intervention in Jamaica which supported the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) in drafting new legislation to provide a distinct legal status Act for social enterprise, as well as the development of a national social enterprise marketing and resource mobilization. The second featured intervention, presented by the head of Social Enterprise Ghana, draws on public-private dialogue to update the draft Ghana Social Enterprise Policy and develop an action plan for its adoption and mainstreaming in the country.
