WAN-Hive Ghana Launches Women in Agribusiness Support Program in the Bono Region
WAN-Hive Ghana, a female-focused Innovation space in Sunyani launches the Women in Agribusiness Program (WAP) on March 19, 2022, purposely to build momentum towards developing the female agribusiness potential in the Bono Region through inclusive dialogue and training programs
The Program which is set to scale up the operations of female farmers in the region is in partnership with iSPACE FOUNDATION, UKAID, RISA, and GHANA HUBS NETWORK under the GENDER AWARENESS PROGRAM.
The event commenced with an opening remark from the Chief Executive Officer of WAN-Hive Ghana, Ms. Janat Issifu who welcomed all female farmers and other Guests. She explained the objective of the program whilst reiterating that even though a large number of the female population are engaged in Agribusiness, their efforts have been overlooked with little support for their growth. The C.E.O assured the farmers that WAN-Hive Ghana is poised to change the status quo by advocating and equipping them with all relevant skills and resources to help boost their operations. She added that WAN-Hive has opened its doors to provide free Consultation services to female framers every Thursday and Friday.
Mr. Alfred Akkufo Larbi, a financial expert trained the farmers in basic bookkeeping, and Ms. Felicia Boadu from the Food and Agricultural Department had a dialogue with the women about the robust measures outlined by the government to accelerate agribusiness and how these farmers can access the opportunities available at the department.
Agriculture contributes a huge percentage to Ghana’s GDP of which women plays a vital role in attaining this, however, the support for their growth is always limited. The Gender Awareness Program seeks to work on marginalized women, children, and people with disability. WAN-Hive Ghana is focused on advocating for and equipping marginalized women.
